5 Reasons to Regularly Rotate Your Tires

Tire Rotation Tips Hartje Tire & ServiceWhat is tire rotation?

Maybe you’ve heard of the term “tire rotation”. If so, you probably know that it’s important to have your vehicle’s tires rotated. But what does this mean, and why is it so critical to the health of your car?

The concept is simple. Tire rotation is nothing more than moving the tires from their initial position to a new location on your vehicle. This is done in a systematic way: typically, front tires are moved to the back of the car, and back tires are moved to the front. The tires can be crisscrossed from left to right during this process, too. In this way, the tires are swapped to the location opposite of where they started.

It is important to note that rotation patterns vary between vehicles. Weight distribution, tread style, two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive are just a few factors that can influence this. Always consult your owner’s manual to view your vehicle’s manufacturer specifications.

Why is Tire Rotation important?

1. It Promotes Even Tire Wear, Which Keeps your Tires Running Longer

Your tires naturally experience varying levels of stress depending on where they’re located on your vehicle. Because of this, some tires will wear out faster than others if left unrotated. By regularly rotating your tires, you’re allowing for even wear and stress on the tread. This ultimately prolongs the life of your tires and ensures safer driving throughout!

2. It Leads to Safer Driving

Your tires are the only point of contact between your vehicle and the road. When they are rotated regularly, you minimize the risk of developing bald spots or high-risk areas on your tires that could result in loss of traction. This will help to protect against slips, slides, blowouts and hydroplaning on the road.

3. And Better Handling

When your tires are evenly worn, you’ll enjoy better performance from your car. The vehicle will be more balanced and aligned, allowing the car to respond to starts, stops, and turns more quickly.

4. It Ensures a Smooth, Comfortable Ride

When tires aren’t rotated, the uneven tread can begin to impact the “feel” of your vehicle. To preserve the smooth ride you love and expect, keep your tread even through regular tire rotations.

5. Which Leads to LOTS of Savings!

Regular tire rotations will save you a great deal of money down the road. Not only will your tires last longer, but you’ll steer clear of avoidable, costly repairs that could result from uneven tread.

How often should my tires be rotated?

Your owner’s manual will provide the most accurate information regarding recommended tire rotation for your vehicle. As a rule of thumb, though, it is a good idea to rotate your tires every 6,000 miles. At Hartje Tire & Service, we make this easy – when you come in for an oil change, we automatically rotate your tires for FREE when they’re at the 6,000 mile interval!  We know how hectic life can be...we believe tire rotation should be one thing you don’t need to think about (or pay for).

Regular tire rotation is a no-brainer: extend the life of your tires, promote safer driving and better handling, and save money? Yes please! Plus, like we said, it’s free every 6,000 miles with an oil change at Hartje Tire & Service. Let our trusted Team keep your vehicle running smoothly and safely on the road. So, we’ll see you soon?
